BABEL: WHOLE LONELY WORLD

in your
whole
lonely
world

alone

you might
reach
across unfathomable
distance

take hands with
another
who is there
beside you

alone.

hold
that hand
hold
tight
tighter

that hand of
another
who is
as far away as
you
in your
own
lonely
self.

this is our world
this is our world

this is

our

whole

lonely

world.

FOR THE SPARKS

against fear
yearning for joy
a mortal link.

against anger
struggling for compassion
a simple gift.

against harsh din
and overwhelming silence

no words
only what touches
what holds

for one neverending moment.

director:  Alejandro Gonzáles Iñárritu, writer:  Guillermo Arriaga

SYRIANA: IN THIS MODERN WORLD

In this modern world

we have the good life:
clean water, safe home
fine food, healthy family.
All going for the gold.

If this life is but a dream
then you might find
other things, other reasons
to live, or maybe die, for:

another kind of wealth
a hero's decorated death
a martyr's greater glory
a promise of hereafter.

There are different legacies
to leave behind, there are
places and times when and where
who and what you know

doesn't open a wider world
for your eager being
but narrows and endangers
you and yours.

It's all just...

evolution
birthright
god's gift
luck of draw

divine will
free will
man's dominion
natural law

inheritance of meek
survival of fittest
mercy of others
divine intervention

entitlement
synchronicity
entanglement
connection

wrath of god
nature's way
my way
the highway

fluke
fate
chaos
karma

the answer to your prayers
something you work for every day
everything you ever wanted
nothing you could see coming

...isn't it?

Beware the beating of drums
the bearing of gifts
whether by strangers or countrymen.
Mad desires and simple faith live everywhere

in this modern world

A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE:  TROUBLE

Trouble
it comes around

Death
doesn't go away for long

and Violence
is much more than a fact of life.

Denial
has nothing to do with it

neither, finally
does Goodness.

when
the Bad Thing
came my way
square in my path
with no way round
maybe I was too weak
to stop it
maybe I was strong enough
to take it
it didn't matter

Trouble just came on in.

Violence is a slam
that jars and shatters
till your dying day

that is, if it doesn't kill you right off.

You laugh
looking at this
but you’re on edge
nervous, fearful.

Ok, don't face it then
say this is
fiction   exaggeration   lies.

But
I'm here
to tell you
Hell
for you
will be all the more
harsh

when Trouble comes around.

MARIE ANTOINETTE: SHE WANTS

“Marie Antoinette:  This is ridiculous.
Lady-in-waiting:  Madame, this is Versailles."

She wants
Candy
She wants
Shoes
(purple leather, lime green satin)
She wants
Angel Cake, Strawberries
and Chocolate
goes without saying a word.

Decadence.

The height of It is so
Deliciously Low
She knows better
She knows
knows...

What does She know?

What others say
What others think
What about Her own Mind?

Perhaps She has lost her own Mind.

She wants
little Lambs
Chickens with warm brown Eggs
fresh Milk, a Row on the Lake.
She wants
Her Friends nearby
Her Dogs, Her Daughter
and maybe
A Lover.

She wants Moonlight until Dawn
then
She wants to watch the Sunrise.
